Open house: Larimer, Fort Collins team up on Poudre River-Shields Street construction
June 08, 2011
FORT COLLINS -- The project team in charge of the 2014 street widening and rebuild-expansion of the Poudre River-Shields Street bridge plans a pre-design open house Thursday, June 16, 5 - 7 p.m. at the Larimer County Emergency Services Building.
"The area has become a safety concern with 21 crashes in the last five years," according to a press release from the North Shields Street Corridor Project. The existing two-lane roadway carries more than 9,000 cars a day.
The bridge reconstruction, street widening, and other improvements will affect nearby property owners, trail access, and street traffic.
County engineer project goals include:
- A safe bridge
- Improved traffic flow
- Increased safety
- Facilities for bikes and pedestrians
- Parking for a trailhead
The county won a federal grant to help support the improvements, and is coordinating with the City of Fort Collins, which plans adjoining improvements at the Vine Drive and Shields intersection. For more information, contact Martina Wilkinson, (970) 498-5731
